Week 14

What Dante is teaching the readers in Canto XV?

During Canto XV Dante feels good. According to Dante, Mr. Brunetto saw the intellectualism that Dante had and believed in him. During this Canto we can see how Dante treats Brunetto in a different says as the other people he has encountered. Dante is more respectful towards Brunetto. This is demonstrated in the following evidence when Dante says “I made reply, “Are you here, Ser Brunetto?” In this evidence, the word (Ser) shows the respect way that Dante is referring to his teacher. Moreover, Brunetto says “O son,” he said, “whoever of this herd.” In this evidence is demonstrated how Brunetto was like a father figure for Dante, by him saying the word Son it lets the reader know the type of love he had for Dante. This Love was a family type of love. This is why Dante feels really sad for the fate of Brunetto.
