Week 2

The Hymn of Man discusses how the creation of the world. According to the author the world was created by the Parts of the body of a Man. The author says, “The moon was born from his mind; from his eye the sun was born”. Each part of the body represents a different creation generated by the Man which today is part of our world. In addition, from my viewpoint I think that the gods use this Man as an instrument to create the world and in this hymn, we see how the Man is been seem as a crucial part of the creation of the world. The Hymn of Man clearly discussed the creation of the world differently from the Creation Hymn. As mentioned before in the Hymn of Man we can see how the author is referring as the Man’s body parts that created or had a symbolism that connects with parts of the world that were created. In this hymn the author seems confident and credible of all the statements that he is establishing. The author gives the readers more concrete answers that makes the author more reliable. Whereas, in the Creation Hymn talks about that there was something alive that might create the world and is described as something abstract that it is hard to find the answers. This can be shown when the author mentions “breath” which is an allusion to life. The tone of the author of the Creation Hymn is all about confusion and curiosity. This is demonstrated when the author question himself “Who really knows? Who will here proclaim it? Whence was it produced? Whence is this creation?” This illustrates how unsure the authors feel and that all that he mentioned before about the creation could have just be speculations. Both hymns are discussing the creation of the world, despite that both have two different ideas and perspectives. Something that comes to my mind about having two or more hymn which discusses the creation of the world differently is how I can connect to religion today. All religions have different perspectives about how humans should act and behave in the world. Moreover, how the religions express their different ideas of how the world might have been created.
